Why we Worship

PSALM 47

Clap your hands, all peoples!
  Shout to God with loud songs of joy!
For the LORD, the Most High, is to be feared,
  a great king over all the earth.
He subdued peoples under us,
  and nations under our feet.
He chose our heritage for us,
  the pride of Jacob whom he loves.

God has gone up with a shout,
  the LORD with the sound of a trumpet.
Sing praises to God, sing praises!
  Sing praises to our King, sing praises!
For God is the King of all the earth;
  sing praises with a psalm!

Why Sing?

God reigns over the nations;
  God sits on his holy throne.
The princes of the peoples gather
  as the people of the God of Abraham.
For the shields of the earth belong to God;
  he is highly exalted!

Why Scripture?

What could be more mysterious than to stumble across something that is in the heart and mind and eternal purpose of God? And then have the privilege of telling the world about it? Consider the Apostle Paul.

The Greatest Of All Mysteries Revealed

April 24, 2010

Paul says that God gave him the privilege of preaching "the unsearchable riches of Christ, and to make plain to everyone the administration of this mystery, which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things. Ephesians 3:7-9

 Pretty daunting, I'd say. There was a time, Paul tells us, when we were....

 ".....separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world."

 That's a pretty bleak assessment. Hold on, though. Paul's just getting started....

"But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ."

 Things are definitely looking up. And there's more....

"For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and regulations."

 And just why did God feel the need to go to all this trouble?

"His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace, and in this one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near."

 So just what exactly did Jesus accomplish?

"For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit."

 Wow. The whole Trinity involved, just so we could have relationship with God! Now comes the best part - one big happy family.

"Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God's people and members of God's household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.

Ephesians 2:11-22

Who wouldn't want to be part of that family? Sign me up!
